Family – Once Upon A Time

Defying digitization and the dispensability of music, here’s a 14 CD boxed behemoth of everything ever recorded by Family, 1967 – 1973, with a price tag pitched at now comfortable fans who formerly grooved in greatcoats, available only online at familyonceuponatime.com.
As complicated as any of their Progressive Era peers, Family were distinguished by a soulful blues heart, and the confrontational proto-punk presence of vocalist Roger Chapman, and by the fact that being from Leicester rendered pretention impossible.
By Seventies standards Family seemed strange. Shorn of their moorings they suddenly make sense.

It's only possible to like right-on, lefty comedians like Stuart Lee if you're a right-on lefty yourself. In attempting to send up intolerance by being blatantly intolerant and bigoted, Lee falls flat on his face making any genuinely tolerant, left-of-centre, liberals so horrified that they simply could not laugh. In short, if you're a bigoted, socialist worker, civil servant, teacher, social worker or NHS employee then Stuart Lee is the comedian for you. If you actually care about tolerance for all, even those who have different political opinons from you, he's about as funny as the credit crunch."
