If ever there was a comedian who divided opinion, it’s Stewart Lee.
Older readers may remember him from his other comedy vehicle – the 1990s decidedly-studenty Fist Of Fun, with Richard Herring.
Stewart doesn’t do jokes as such … but don’t turn away just yet, for the man offers up a deliciously esoteric slant on daily life that you will never, ever get anywhere else. In other words, he’s a comedy genius. Think the ferocity of Bill Hicks paired with the eye for the absurdity of Eddie Izzard. And that’s still not really it.
The 90s comedian treads a wafer thin line between the often eye-poppingly outrageous reflections of his stand-up persona and the musings and life of the real “Stew”.
Stewart also cleverly plays about with the curious and often absurd interchange between his two audiences (the ones at home and in the stalls).
Tonight’s jaw-dropping story is all about a cat called Jeremy Corbyn. It is very, very funny.
