Tindersticks – The Something Rain – City Slang

Ideally suited to smoked filled rooms long since legislated out of existence, Nottingham’s most cosmopolitan export have spent two decades finessing an exotic gallic soul noir, a perfect fit for the outpourings of moody mumbler Stuart Staples’ barely beating heart.
Their ninth studio album, excluding four film scores, opens with a lava lamp lit, nine minute, slow building story of a romantic encounter gone awry, Terry Edwards’ sax in an ironic dialogue with the cinematic history of squawking sex scene soundtrack solos.
Elsewhere the original blueprints, rickety railtrack rhythms and soulful Rhodes piano, remain as effective as ever.
