Steel Pulse – Prodigal Sons, The Best Of

In the mid-‘70s, Birmingham’s Steel Pulse sold a dramatic live version of roots reggae’s studio bound sound to suspicious punks, and issued an astonishing debut of pressure cooked protest songs, Handsworth Revolution, bleeding flamenco guitar into deep heat dub-wise grooves. Five of that unsurpassed album’s eight cuts, and a b-side, feature here, along with some dated late ‘80s and ‘90s pop reggae cuts.
With nothing from 1982’s True Democracy, the band’s second best album, Prodigal Sons isn’t a definitive career overview, but will have to do until someone slaps out Handsworth Revolution with out-takes and Peel sessions.

"I think describing himself as a comedian is the only funny thing the man has ever said. Don't bother telling me that I don't get it; I don't want it.
