Ken Stringfellow – Danzig In The Moonlight

The ubiquitous multi-instrumentalist Ken Stringfellow staffed Alex Chilton’s Big Star for seventeen years, prolonged REM’s painful decline, and co-fronts Seattle’s resilient power pop professionals The Posies.
His solo albums beat his band projects, omnivorously devouring vast swathes of canonical American pop tropes, tailgating bigger beasts like Wilco or The Flaming Lips.
Drop Your Pride is a Broadway Bond theme belter; Pray is horn-laden Seventies soul; the weightlessly weird Odorless, Colorless, Tasteless recalls Chilton’s experimental moments; Doesn’t It Remind You Of Something? channels Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra’s broken-hearted country pop duets.
Stringfellow is the Leonard Zelig of American Alterno-rock.

"I think describing himself as a comedian is the only funny thing the man has ever said. Don't bother telling me that I don't get it; I don't want it. It's only possible to like right-on, lefty comedians like Stuart Lee if you're a right-on lefty yourself. In attempting to send up intolerance by being blatantly intolerant and bigoted, Lee falls flat on his face making any genuinely tolerant, left-of-centre, liberals so horrified that they simply could not laugh. In short, if you're a bigoted, socialist worker, civil servant, teacher, social worker or NHS employee then Stuart Lee is the comedian for you. If you actually care about tolerance for all, even those who have different political opinons from you, he's about as funny as the credit crunch."
