2006 I support teenage heroes The Nightingales at The Spitz in London and direct Jerry Springer The Opera for the 19th time for the National Tour. The show works fine but is involved in an uphill battle against disinformation from the Christian right and opportunistic local politicians, especially in Leicester. A predictable cycle is established, on a week to week basis on arrival in each new town, of an unfavourable front-lash in hysterical local papers followed by ecstatic reviews arriving sometimes too late to turn the tide. Feb 2006 – A lifetime’s ambition is achieved by appearing on Radio 4’s Today prog to discuss the Danish Muslim Cartoons. Hear it on the Archives Page |
March 2006 – A team of local enthusiasts film the 90s Comedian set at the Chapter Arts centre in Cardiff, for possible later release. It was subsequently released as the debut product of cottage industry company Go Faster Stripe in November 2006 & can now be bought and owned.. April 2006 – I spend a month in the National Theatre studio with Eliza Carthy, Sean Foley, Steve Frost, Ben Moor, Joanna Neary, Saul Rose and Johnny Vegas trying to develop an as-yet untitled piece about William Blake and folk singers |

July 2006 - I perform 90's Comedian for two weeks at the Montreal Festival, as part of a package of four actual full length shows, rather than the festival's usual succession of showcases with acts doing 6 minute audition spots for American TV exec's. It goes swell and everyone working for Just For Laughs is lovely. July 2006 - I have a poem in this collection of comedians' poetry, THAT WHICH IS NOT SAID |

August 2006
– I direct Eric Bogosian’s Talk Radio in Edinburgh
(see
press) |
September 2006 - I front a channel 5 documentary
on religous censorship, Don't Get Me Started, to
mixed reviews. The whole show's been uploaded to Youtube - CLICK HERE TO WATCH IT |
September 2006 I fly to Taos, New Mexico, to make White Face, Dark Heart, a documentary for Radio 4 on the pueblo clowns. It was a lifetime's ambition to see them at work. You can hear it here. |
