2005 JANUARY - MARCH 2005 I tour the UK with the Stand-Up Comedian show, with support from talented ingénue Josie Long. Get her brilliant fanzine Drawing Moustaches In Magazines Monthly by e-mailing drawingmoustaches@hotmail.co.uk. Here we are on one of our fun days out at the Nine Ladies Stone Circle in Derbyshire which is being defended from quarrying by an American company by scores of brave tree-dwellers This whole tour was great. Thanks to everyone that put us on and came to see us. Read about our adventures in this exclusive interview with a Mini-owners’ magazine. |

I do the Stand-Up Comedian show at the Aspen Comedy Festival. I appear on Majority Report Radio with Sam Seeder and Janeane Garofalo, who are fighting their corner with gusto and verve. I see brilliant talks by underground cartoonists
Lynda Barry, Charles Burns, Dan Clowes, Chris Ware and Kaz
who all sign my McSweeny’s, and by Greg Behrendt and
Liz Tuccillo who wrote for Sex And The City. I hang with the
New York literati – David Rees of Get
Your War On, John
Hodgman, Amy
Sohn and the perverted genius Jonathan
Ames. Ames’ autobiographical books are great and
Rees’ political comic strip is peerless. I crash a party
of the richest man in Aspen in the company of the irish comedian
David
O’Doherty. MARCH 2005 Record Comic To Comic

MARCH-APRIL
2005
I do the Stand-Up Comedian show at the Melbourne Festival. See press here. It slowly builds over the month and eventually gets nominated for an award despite some bad reviews. Afterwards I tour the state of Victoria with David O’Doherty, the young Australian Charlie Pickering, and the American ladies Maria Bamford, who is a mad genius, and Jackie Kashian, who is one sassy Armenian. Jackie’s site has blogs of all our travels together. LEFT: Alternative Poster drawn by Greg Fleet’s daughter, Sundae, after complaints that my poster (FAR LEFT) is rubbish. |

APRIL-MAY 2005
I
do the Stand-Up Comedian show at the New Zealand comedy festival.
The Classic is a great venue. The shows goes really well,
apart from one night when British people who like sport come
(read
more here). I do extra gigs on late night shows most nights
with Phil Nicol, Steven K Amos, and do my set dressed as a
pirate, making it all about pirates (below).

The young Australian comedian Charlie Pickering and I climbed a volcano on an island off the coast of Auckland. There were no other people on the Island apart from a British couple. The man proposed to the woman at the top. She accepted. They drank champagne. Then they came and asked to have their photo taken with me, that bloke off the telly circa 1995. C Pickering now worships me as a God. |

2005 On the road touring the state of Western Australia with Jackie, the 4 Noels, Dave Callan and Frank Woodley. We swam with sharks at Exmouth and performed mainly to miners and strippers (read more here). These were some of the most fun gigs I’ve ever had. RIGHT: The classic Western Australian Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow team somewhere backstage in the middle of nowhere. If you look closely you can see some snot coming out of my nose. FAR RIGHT: Me onstage somewhere in Western Australia. But who knows? Where was it? How did I get there? What was I talking about? |

and performed about two dozen extra late night shows. I sang
Wichita Lineman with Rob Deering's band at Late and Live and
