Lee and Herring Live
Edinburgh International Festival Pleasance
The Stage 29/08/1996 CAMERON ROBERTSON

The boys from TV's Fist of Fun, pack 'em in for another show. Richard Herring wanders about the stage like a penguin with memory loss, spewing juvenile fun to which the audience applaud and groan vigorously.
Stewart Lee tries to talk as gently as possible for much of the time and gives his logical and structured analysis to, among other things, annoy his pal Herring.

Lee acts as an all-knowing big brother, continually arguing and trying to outwit Herring in a battle of wills. There's a good mix of conversational humour and reminiscing about amusing schoolteachers' names.
The pair also enjoy a monologue each which gives good balance to a well-structured show of bickering and ponderous moments. The aspect that partly propels them to their present status is their tremendous chemistry and banter, even during their disagreements.
It's a very audience-friendly show with solid material that is extremely polished and well delivered. And there's some stupid talk about a stick on a moon or something
