Evangelista - In Animal Tongue - Constellation - CST082-2
Casual consumers convinced by PJ Harvey's Mercury nod might try a cautious lick of Evangelista's In Animal Tongue. Carla Bozulich graduated from the Eighties LA punk scene via the noisy improvisations of Scarnella and the gothic country music of The Geraldine Fibbers and her solo work, to the distinctly dark sound of Evangelista.
Montreal experimental musicians lay down claustrophobically dense thickets of cello, violin, viola and contrabass while Bozulich whispers and retches fecund and unsentimental visions of consuming flames, trembling birds and fearful lambs. Bozulich remains a true artist - unique, uncompromising, brilliant, and, frankly, almost too much to bear.
